StoryWalk® at Westlake Recreation Center Park

Lynn Pettyjohn of the Friends shows a young patron a page from the StoryWalkWestlake Porter Public Library and the City of Westlake have partnered to provide a StoryWalk® in the Westlake Recreation Center Park, located along the walking path near the playground.

A StoryWalk® is an interactive way for young readers and their caregivers to enjoy reading and nature at the same time. Laminated pages from a children’s picture book are displayed on special posts along one of the park's paths. As you stroll down the path you are directed toward the next page of the story.

A joint project between the Library and the City, Westlake's StoryWalk® is funded by the Friends of Porter Public Library and memorial donations in honor of Sandra Sauer, former library employee and member of the Friends.

Featured Picture Books

Kids can peek underground, dig into the wonders of roots and discover all the amazing things roots do for trees and plants. Whether children are junior gardeners or simply curious about the trees they climb and the flowers they pick, this picture book shows the side of the story they don't see — the underground story. Kids and teachers alike will love this entertaining yet informative text that features a wide array of plants found in many different regions of the country. Perfect for classroom units on botany. The simple text is accompanied by abundantly green oil-and-acrylic spreads that keep perfect step. – School Library Journal
