Libraries Transform: Continuing the Conversation

Cuyahoga County is on pace to hit 650 overdose deaths in 2017. Heroin, Fentanyl, Carfentanil are all taking a heavy toll in our communities. Over the past several days I have listened to police detectives, fire chiefs, medical personnel and parents who have lost children to overdose talk about the devastating effects of this epidemic.

While this problem needs to be addressed on many different fronts two key components are education and support. Throughout Cuyahoga County many organizations are offering programs and resources to help. At Westlake Porter Public Library we have started a yearlong initiative called Continuing the Conversation with a goal of creating a forum for ongoing conversations about substance abuse and mental health issues in our community.

Partners in this effort include the City of Westlake, Westlake School District and Council of PTAs, Far West Center, Recovery Resources, Connecting for Kids, Drug Awareness & Prevention and the Child & Family Counseling Center of Westlake. If substance abuse or mental health issues are a concern for you, please reach out to someone - and that includes your public library.
