WPPL no longer has eclipse glasses to give away.

We are sorry for the inconvenience. There will be glasses available at the Eclipse Watch Party. Learn more about the eclipse in the STEAM blog.

Sparkler and small flagThe library will be closed on Sunday, September 3 and Monday, September 4, 2017 in observance of Labor Day.

Eclipse Watch Party

Solar eclipse

On Monday, August 21 from 12:00-4:30pm in the Porter Room, watch NASA's livestream of the total eclipse from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois on the big screen. Then hang around until the skies darken in Northeast Ohio (our partial eclipse maxes out at 2:30pm)! NASA experts will explain the underlying science in between views of the total eclipse as it happens.

There will be refreshments and fun activities, too! We will have free eclipse glasses at the event, but we are no longer able to give them out ahead of time.

Investors' Interest Group: Long-Term Care Planning

Old and young holding hands

The cost of long term care, be it nursing home, assisted living or home care can quickly drain a family of its resources. Elder law attorney Elizabeth Perla will discuss how one puts together a long term care plan, including utilizing personal resources, insurance and government benefits.

Bring your questions Monday, August 21 from 7:00-8:30pm to the Porter Room so that you can start preparing a plan that can save your family money and improve your quality of life!

Mindfulness and Meditation

Balanced rocks on the shore

Mello Mitchell returns on Tuesday, August 29 at 7:00pm to instruct us in meditation. Learn simple meditation techniques to reduce anxiety and discover inner peace. We will also explore the history of meditation, the research behind its effectiveness, benefits and how to establish a successful practice.

Research Matters Month

August is Research Matters Month at Westlake Porter Public Library!

It's a great time to explore the many information resources provided through WPPL, including eBooks, databases and helpful websites. We'll also have free giveaways throughout the month.
