Unlike the days of required reading you may remember from high school, summer reading at WPPL can be fun!
The Big Library Read is coming to WPPL this June 3-18. Sponsored by OverDrive, all readers are invited to download a copy of Laurien Berenson's first-in-a-series mystery, A Pedigree to Die For. Designed especially for ebook and eaudiobook readers, the goal of the program is to have as many people as possible download and read the book and then participate in an online discussion. A special feature of this Big Library Read is that there are no restrictions on how many people can read the book at one time - no holds and no waiting. Click here to connect to our OverDrive page.
A Pedigree to Die For is the premiere title in Berenson's Melanie Travis series, with the 17th title due out in August. Melanie's life has evolved throughout the series, but her love of poodles, dog shows, and amateur sleuthing stays strong.
Please join our Big Library Read online discussion, led by librarian Jessica Williams, on Monday, June 16 from 7:30-8:30 pm on Facebook. You can sign up for this event here.
Don't forget about WPPL's own Summer Reading Program - it's not just for kids! This year's theme is "Literary Elements". The program will begin on June 16, so be sure to register in person or online - read or listen to books or attend programs - fill out your entry forms, and hopefully win one of our great weekly prizes. Of course, the culminating event for the Summer Reading Program is our fabulous Ice Cream Social. Save the date - Monday, July 28 - for an evening of fun, games, entertainment, prizes, and delicious ice cream, all provided by the wonderful Friends of Porter Public Library.
Now you can make your own reading list - maybe you'll add some of these summer releases.
Castillo, Linda - The Dead Will Tell - with Police Chief Kate Burkholder, set in Ohio's Amish country. (#6 in the series, due out July 8.)
Evanovich, Janet - Top Secret Twenty-One - Stephanie Plum is back! (June 17)

Jance, J.A. - Remains of Innocence - author of 3 popular mystery series, Jance brings back Sheriff Joanna Brady in this novel set in Cochise County, Arizona. (#16 due out July 22)
