We invite you to walk with us in Westlake's Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 29 at 9:15am.

All participants in the 1.1 mile walk will receive a free WPPL t-shirt, courtesy of the Friends of Westlake Porter Public Library. Please register online to receive your T-shirt.

Author Visit: Cleveland in World War II

Cover of Cleveland in World War II by Brian Albrecht & James BanksBerthed on the Cleveland lakefront, the battle-hardened submarine USS Cod serves as a proud reminder of the wartime contributions from the Greater Cleveland community. Clevelanders did their duty and more, from round-the-clock work on the factory assembly lines to the four Medal of Honor recipients on the front lines.

Join us Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 7:00–8:30pm in the Porter Room as authors Brian Albrecht and James Banks honor a time when Clevelanders of all stripes answered the call to arms.

Invasive Plants

Purple loostrife

Judy Semroc, Conservation Specialist at The Cleveland Museum of Natural History, will discuss some of the top invasive plants in the area and why they are problematic. She'll give some helpful information on how to eradicate and keep invasives in check as well as species to plant instead of invasives.

Now Collecting Memories and Stories for the Veterans History Project

WPPL is joining the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project and will begin collecting oral histories from veterans living in the area. The mission of the Veterans History Project is to collect, preserve and make accessible the personal accounts of American wartime veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans in their own words and better understand the realities of war.
