Youth Services Programs

All of the following programs will take place at Westlake Porter Public Library; 27333 Center Ridge Road; Westlake, Ohio. For more information or to register, please stop by or call the library's Youth Services Department at (440) 250-5471. You may also register online by using our online calendar and registration system. If you have registered for a program and can't come, please let us know so that someone else may have the spot!


September & October 2006


MITIcraft SATURDAY: Drop in anytime between 10 AM & 2 PM, Saturdays, September 9 and October 7. A Make-It-Take-It (MITI) craft experience with all supplies provided.  Children under 9 must have a caring adult.  No registration required for this program.

POTTY TRAIN IN JUST ONE DAY, Tues., September 12:  Co-Presented by WECPTA & Westlake Porter Public Library. Author Teri Crane will talk about her book, Potty Train in Just One Day: Proven Secrets of the Potty Pro. Her book will also be available for purchase. PLEASE NOTE: WECPTA will conduct their business meeting from 7 to 8 PM. The potty training program will begin at 8 PM. All are welcome to attend both events.

COME PLAY WITH ME, 10 to 10:45 AM: Fridays, September 15 & October 13.  For children ages 2 - 4 and a caring adult. Adult and child participate to make this a fun experience for all. Enjoy open play time, songs and finger plays. Registration Required: call, stop in, or register online one week prior to program.

REMEMBERING CHRISTINA: Mon., September 11, 1 to 8 PM. Commemorate the 5th anniversary of the  9/11 attacks by creating  an origami dove to hang in Christina’s Corner. All supplies are provided. Staff will be on hand to instruct. Children under nine should be with a caring adult. No registration required, drop in between 1:00 and 8:00 PM.

PICKLE TREE CLUB, 3:45 to 4:30 PM: Thursdays, September 28 and October 19  Grades K thru 2. Where you will explore the real and not-so-real world through books, crafts, and activities.  Registration Required: Call, stop in or register online one week prior to program.

CELEBRATE CUSTOMER SERVICE WEEK October 1 - 7 with our candy counting contest! Kids: stop in and guess the number of candies in our jar. You can win the entire thing! You must be between the ages of 5 - 12 to make a guess.

 PRESCHOOL HALLOWEEN SPECIAL: Tues., October 31, 10 to10:45 AM. Children ages 3 1/2-5 yrs. are invited to celebrate with a morning full of pumpkin stories, songs, and a simple craft. Limit 25. Registration Required: call, stop in or register online beginning 10/24.


November & December 2006

COME PLAY WITH ME!   Fridays, 11/10 and 12/8, 10 AM to 10:45 AM For children ages 2 -- 4 with a caring adult.  Enjoy songs, fingerplays, and an open play time. Registration begins one week prior to event.  Limit 20.

PICKLE TREE CLUB:  Thursdays, 11/30 and 12/14, 3:45 PM to 4:30 PM For children grades K -- 2.  Explore the real -- and not so real -- world through books, crafts and activities. Registration begins one week prior to event.  Limit 20.

THE NUTCRACKER:  Friday, 11/3, 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM For children ages 3 -- 5 with caregiver.  The Ohio Dance Theatre troupe will read “The Nutcracker” and will bring costumes to add to the fun!  Registration begins 10/27. Limit 20.

FAIRY TALE FRENZY:  Tuesday, 11/14, 3:45 PM to 4:30 PM For children grades k -- 3.  Do you know the real story of the Three Little Pigs?  Come share an afternoon of funny fairy tales and a simple craft.  Registration begins 11/7. Limit 20.

SLEEPY STORIES:  Wednesday, 11/15, 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM For children ages 2 and up.  Families are welcome to attend this special evening of relaxing bedtime stories.  Children may wear pajamas and bring a favorite stuffed toy. No registration.

OPERATION HOLIDAY CHEER:  Friday & Saturday, 11/24 and 11/25, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Send a little holiday cheer overseas!  Stop by the Youth Services Department and create holiday cards for our troops.  All supplies provided.  Children under 9 must be with a caring adult.

WINTER WONDERLAND:  Thursday, 12/21, 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM For children ages 3 1/2 -- 5.  Chill out with a morning of snowy stories, songs, activities and a simple craft.  Registration begins 12/14.  Limit 20.

BE “TWEEN” US:  Thursday, 12/28, 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM  Let’s talk!  What books, movies, music and activities do you want to see in the department?  Bring your lunch; we provide beverages and dessert!  Registration begins 12/21.  Limit 20.

GINGERBREAD:  Friday, 12/22, 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM For children grades 2 -- 4.  Run, run, run as fast as you can and grab yourself a gingerbread man!  Join us for an afternoon of fun decorating these sweet holiday treats!  Registration begins 12/15.  Limit 20.

BOOK SWAP:  Wednesday, 12/27, 10 AM to 8 PM  Kids in preschool to 5th Grade are welcome to drop in and swap their gently used books with us.  It’s a great way to get something new to read!
