To access the OPLIN Databases from home all you have to do is select Westlake Porter Public Library from the drop down list and enter your library card number. When entering your library card number, enter it exactly the way it appears on your card (capital and small letters where appropriate). Do not include spaces. Through remote access you will have access to the following databases.

      "As the world's largest full text business database, Business Source Premier provides full text for over 2,800 scholarly business journals, including full text for nearly 900 peer-reviewed business publications. Coverage includes virtually all subject areas related to business. This database provides full text (PDF) for more than 300 of the top scholarly journals dating as far back as 1922. This database is updated on a daily basis via EBSCOhost."

      "This database provides over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas."

    • Health Source Consumer Edition
      "With Health Source - Consumer Edition you can search for information on many health topics including the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, child care, sports medicine and general health. Health Source -Consumer Edition features searchable full text for over 190 journals including Consumer Reports on Health and Men's Health, as well as abstracts and indexing for over 205 general health, nutrition and professional health care publications."

      "Vocational & Career Collection is designed for vocational and technical libraries servicing high schools, community colleges, trade institutions and the general public. This collection provides full text coverage for nearly 360 trade and industry-related periodicals. "

  • Annals of American History Online
    "2,100 entries from 1493 to the present, including original source documents such as speeches, essays, biographies, editorials written by contributors like Madeleine Albright, Henry Ford, John Hancock, Malcolm X, and Edgar Allen Poe. From Encyclopaedia Britannica."

  • Art and Architecture Database
    "This database contains the AMICO Library -- a growing online collection of high-quality, digital documentation of works of art from around the world. Images, text and multimedia represent a broad range of works of art in AMICO Member collections, highlighting the creative output of cultures around the world, from prehistoric to contemporary times, and covering the complete range of expressive forms. Cultures and time periods represented range from contemporary art, Native American and Inuit art, to ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian works, along with Japanese and Chinese works."

  • Biographies Plus Illustrated
    This database from H.W. Wilson is a collection of biographical articles from a variety of sources. It is accessed via the WilsonWeb interface, and users must click the box next to the database name before searching.

  • Discoverer®
    "Discoverer Deluxe Is an award -winning interactive reference database that consist of full-text articles constructed from more than 1,200 magazines, newspapers and U.S. government documents. This online resource is designed to develop research, reading, writing, language and computer skills while making learning fun and intuitive for the young researcher (K-8 reading level)"

  • Enciclopedia Universal en Espanol
    "Encyclopaedia Britannica, with over 47,000 articles; 8300 photos, tables, maps, flags, and images; a dictionary with 65,000 entries; a world atlas detailing countries, maps, statistics, major world cities, and distribution of languages and religions; timelines that show the events of the past in rich graphical form."

    Access any of the 2,800 eBook titles in the OPLIN collection at netLibrary. E-Books are full-text electronic versions of published books that library patrons can search, borrow, read, and return over the Internet.

    NetLibrary is the leading provider of eBooks and Internet-based content management services for the institutional library market. NetLibrary develops, archives, hosts, and maintains eBook collections for academic, corporate, public, and school libraries.

    This collection is different from the Westlake Porter Public Library collection, users must create a new login with a different user name and password than their Westlake library netLibrary account.

    "A non-profit consumer health Web site that provides high-quality information created and evaluated by medical and health professional faculty at the University of Cincinnati, Case Western Reserve University, and The Ohio State University. Includes health news, extensive health reference works, health topics, and Ask an Expert. This area features nearly 200 health professionals, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dieticians, dentists, genetics counselors, optometrists, athletic trainers, and social workers who answer all legitimate questions, usually within 2 to 3 days. Updated daily."

  • Ohio Sanborn Map Collection
    "The Digital Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps provides a searchable interface for locating historical Maps of Ohio towns and cities. These maps were digitized from microfilm copies by Chadwyck-Healey, a Bell & Howell Information and Learning company. The searchable database is a joint project of OPLIN and OhioLINK.

    From 1876 to 1970, the Sanborn Insurance Company created more than 40,035 maps of Ohio towns and cities. Originally used for fire insurance records, these detailed maps identify individual buildings on each block. Detailed information on the maps includes a given building's occupant status (e.g., hotel or state capitol), the building's height, and building's street address among other things. To date, Ohio's historians, urban geographers and archaeologists, and researchers in architecture and ethnic studies have used the printed maps, which are available in printed form in some Ohio libraries.
