The Bernice Yates Community Reading Garden

June construction photos...

The month starts out well with the concrete block core of the garden wall in place, shingles on the potting shed, and decorative trellis pieces being attached to the garden's central pergola.

Potting shed finishing while outer wall rises. With the pergolas complete the carpenter's attention turns to the highly-detailed potting shed. Interior finishing is underway and charming doors are soon to be fitted. Steel posts rise above the masonry base of the outer garden wall. Brickwork will be added to the base of the wall.
Tall light poles are unpacked and prepared for installation. They will hold elegant full-cutoff (non-glaring) fixtures to illuminate the area at night. The poles were shipped inside heavy cardboard tubes and are covered with a light-colored protective plastic tape -- they are actually painted a rich bronze.
