The Friends of the Library

Organized in 1972, the Friends of the Library is a non-profit volunteer organization which supports the Westlake Porter Public Library by giving volunteer service and monetary contributions. These monetary gifts support programs and purchase items that are beyond the library's regular budget.

The Friends of the Library raise their funds from memberships, book sales and Portables, the library gift shop. Since 1974 and through 2006, the Friends have donated more than $400,000 to the Westlake Porter Public Library! Those donations have been used for library materials, furniture & equipment, audio materials, and programming. In recent years, the donations have been added to the special building fund which is used to purchase special items for the recently renovated and enlarged library building. In addition, the Friends provided underwriting for "WestFest," a literary celebration that brought three accomplished authors to Westlake for lectures and school appearances.

Members of the Friends receive a Friends' Newsletter which keeps them apprised of library "happenings" and notes opportunities to volunteer for the library. On October 25, 1997, the Friends celebrated their 25th Anniversary with a marvelous Victorian Tea in the library meeting room. Friends members help with the Book Sales and have the privilege of coming to the Book Sale Preview Night. Friends volunteer in the library gift shop, Portables, and put on the annual Ice Cream Social in the summer. Friends have "Books for Babies" gifts for the newborns in the community.

Please join this great group of people who support the Westlake Porter Public Library. Membership envelopes are available at the Reception Desk of the Library and in Portables Gift Shop for your annual dues. Memberships:

Individual $10.00
Family $15.00
Sustaining $25.00
Patron $50.00
Golden Patron 100.00
