A Ball for Daisy

If you have a dog in the house, it is likely your child's best friend.  There are many benefits to having a dog in the household. It doesn't take long before they are a beloved part of the family. A Ball for Daisy, a wordless picture book by Chirs Raschka, is a Caldecott Medal Winner.

Wordless picture books are a different way to share a story with your child.  Wordless picture books encourage imagination and creativity.  As you share the book it allows your child to create his/her own narrative.

The following craft can be made with items you have around the house, but your child may need assistance with cutting.

Materials

  • White Paper Plate
  • Construction Paper (white, black and brown)
  • Markers/Crayons (black and brown)
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Instructions

  1. Cut one large and two small circles from the black construction paper.
  2. Cut two circles from the white construction paper (slightly larger than the small black circles)
  3. Cut two large ovals (ears) and two very thin strips (eyebrows) from the brown construction paper
  4. Color 1/3 of the paper plate brown (as shown in picture)
  5. Glue the two brown ovals to the back of the paper plate (as shown in picture)
  6. Glue the large black circle (nose) to the middle of the paper plate
  7. Glue the two small black circles onto the two white circles and glue to the paper plate above the nose
  8. Glue the two brown strips above the eye at an angle (as shown in picture)
  9. Draw a mouth below the nose

Your dog is complete!
