43rd Cleveland International Film Festival

CLE INT'L FILM FEST 43 Welcome March 27-April 7, 2019 Tower City Cinemas

The 43rd Cleveland International Film Festival will take place March 27-April 7 at Tower City Cinemas.  WPPL is proud to be a Community Engagement Partner of the CIFF this year, and is sponsoring two showings of the German film, Transit. Described by indiewire as "an inscrutable film that unfolds like a remake of 'Casablanca' as written by Franz Kafka". Transit follows a technician who flees the German Occupation as it pushes through France, stranding him and others in the port city of Marseille. Ostensibly set during WWII, the story moves into the present day without changing the narrative. NPR's reviewer calls it "a film about refugees, premised on society's never-ending potential for fascism". Transit is adapted from the novel of the same name by Anna Seghers.

Still from the movie Transit

If this twisty tale is not your cup of tea - don't worry - the festival offers 212 feature films and 237 short films, so you are sure to find something appealing! Pass the Popcorn will be attending the festival and on the lookout for great films to order when they are released on DVD/Bluray. And, in the meantime, come and check out WPPL's selection of films shown at the festival in previous years (there is a list at the Ask Us desk).
