The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

Cover of The Hating Game by Sally ThorneHappy Valentine’s Day everyone!  If you’re in need of a sexy but light romance look no further. Thorne’s debut novel is so good it’s already been optioned for a movie.

Joshua Templeman and Lucy Hutton do not like each other. They are executive assistants for co-CEOs at a publishing company.  Lucy is quirky and upbeat and Joshua is brooding and meticulous. They spend their day playing games comprised of a variety of passive aggressive behaviors.  When a promotion becomes available, for which they’ve both been recommended, things begin to spiral out of control. A bout with the flu, an unexpected kiss in the elevator and a series of close encounters demonstrate that the hating game has most definitely evolved into something else. When Lucy agrees to be Joshua’s plus one at his brother’s wedding, things get serious.

This one gets an enthusiastic thumbs up from a couple of us here at WPPL. Not only is it LOL funny, but it has a slow burn that really amps up the anticipation. I listened to the audio version (always available on hoopla with your WPPL card) and thoroughly enjoyed Katie Schorr’s delightful narration. Fans of Meg Cabot’s The Boy series will most certainly enjoy this one.
