A Fox in Winter

FOXWinter Dance written by Marion Dane Bauer and illustrated by Richard Jones tells the story of a little red fox trying to figure out how to prepare for winter.  All of his forest friends give him advice, but none of the suggestions are right for him.  He finally meets a familiar face and knows exactly what to do.

 

Although the weather is warmer, we have many cold days ahead.  Winter Dance has beautiful illustrations and encourage you child's love of nature.  Try this craft after sharing Winter Dance with your child.  The craft may require some assistance from an adult.

Materials

  • Toilet paper tube
  • Orange and white construction paper
  • Black marker
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Cut a piece of orange construction paper to fit around the tp tube and glue in place
  2. Carefully bend two opposite edges of one side of the tube the tube toward each other, this will be the ears (see picture)
  3. Cut a medium size heart from the white construction paper and glue to front of the tp tube, over the orange paper.
  4. Draw eyes and a nose on the heart as shown in the picture.
  5. Cut an oval from the orange construction paper and an oval from the white constrution paper.
  6. Cut the white oval in half with jagged edges and glue to one end of the orange oval.  Gliue this item to the back of the tp tube.
