Cute Little Penguins

PenguinsThe few weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas can be a whirlwind of activity for many.  At times it is a good idea to enjoy the holiday at a slower pace.  Little Penguins written by Cynthia Rylant and illustrated by Christian Robinson is a great book to read on a chilly winter night.

Little Penguins tells the story of 5 little penguins experiencing and eventful winter.  Read this book before bed to wind down and encourage a warm and restful night's sleep.  In the morning, your child can make his own penguin.

Materials

  • Construction paper (black, white and orange)
  • 2 googly eyes
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Instructions

  1. Cut a large oval out of the black construction paper
  2. Cut a medium size heart out of the white construction paper
  3. Cut three smaller heart out of the orange construction paper
  4. Glue the white heart to the black oval as shown in the picture
  5. Glue one orange heart onto the white heart toward the top (see picture)
  6. Glue the two remaining orange heart toward the bottom of the white heart (see picture)
  7. Glue the googly eyes just above the single orange heart.
