Crazy Hair

crazy hairCrazy Hair Day written and illustrated by Barney Saltzberg is a heartwarming story of Stanley, a young hamster, who confused picture day with crazy hair day.  He arrives at school to find out he is the only one with crazy hair.  Stanley hides in the bathroom all day to avoid other students and school pictures.  Eventually, Stanley's friend convinces him to join the class picture.  When Stanley gets to the picture room he has a big surprise.  


Make your own crazy hair craft.



  • One large piece of construction paper (color of choice)
  • One smaller piece of construction paper (color of choice)
  • Glue
  • One hole paper punch
  • Markers
  • Yarn or cord


  1. Cut the shape of a head out of the smaller piece of construction paper.
  2. Punch holes with the one hole punch around the head, starting at the top of one ear and end at the top of the other ear (for smaller children punch fewer holes)
  3. Cut the same amount of 10"-12" pieces of yard/cord as there are holes
  4. Tie one piece of yarn/cord into each punched hole 
  5. Draw a face on the head shape and glue entire head and hair onto the larger piece of construction paper.
