Westlake Porter Public Library is a separate political subdivision, apart from the City of Westlake and the Westlake City Schools, with an autonomous board of trustees. However, the Westlake School District is the library’s taxing authority and as such approves the library budget and appoints trustees.

The Library Board’s primary responsibilities are approving library policies, setting the budget, hiring a director and clerk treasurer, and advocating for the library. Terms are seven years with a maximum of two terms.

Library board meetings are held monthly, usually on a Wednesday, at 6:30 pm. These meetings are open to the public and agendas are posted in the library in advance of the meetings.
