Bicycle Thief, The (Ladri di Biciclette)
The "Bicycle thief" depicts the desperate, tragic acts that ordinary souls are driven to in a post-war urban environment. The setting is Rome, a city still reelng from the ravages of war, and the hero is an unemployed man, Antonio Ricci. He finds work as a bill poster, but his bicycle - which his job, and his survival, depend - is stolen. He and his little boy, Bruno, search for the vehicle, and its thief, in what becomes an odyssey that is at once jarring, ironic, and heartbreaking. Italian dialog with English subtitles.
