Library History

In 1884, Leonard Porter, a school teacher and a leader in the Dover Literary Society, bequeathed $1,000 and his collection of personal books to form a library for the citizens of Dover Township (now Westlake).

Every year, we celebrate that gift, and the tradition that it began.

Our "Idea" video, which was created for the library's 125th anniversary in 2009, received an Honorable Mention in the Library Leadership Administration and Management Association's 2010 "Best in Show" awards.
