Libraries Transform

Libraries Transform because of you!

Libraries Transform is a national public awareness campaign supported by the American Library Association. WPPL has joined libraries of all types in an effeort to increase awareness of the changing role of libraries and the ways that we are transforming to meet the digital and print information needs of our users.

Rapid advances in technology are fueling a library renaissance. No longer just places form books, libraries now offer an assortment of free digitally-based programs and services including downloadable content and technology training. Such tech-based resources are transforming lives through digital literacy and lifelong learning.

As part of the initiative, we'll be sharing the Director's Column from our Notes newsletter, where Andrew Mangels discusses what Libraries Transform means here in Westlake, Ohio. Please share your ideas of how libraries are transforming and transformative, either in the comments section of the blog or on social media.

Free libraries maintained by the people are cradles of democracy, and their spread can never fail to extend and strengthen the democratic idea, the equality of the citizen and the royalty of man. They are emphatically fruits of the true American ideal.

Libraries Transform: Because Early Literacy Begins at the Library

People sometimes wonder why the library has things that aren't books. In our Youth Services Department we have a train table, blocks, puzzles, a puppet theater and dress up store.

According to an article published by the Association for Library Services to Children, "Children's first attempts to read and write frequently occur during play.
