.....trip to Ireland through the pages of a lovely and delightful intergenerational tale, A GREYHOUND OF A GIRL by Roddy Doyle. The story revolves around 12-year-old Mary
O'Hara and her mother Scarlett, her dying granny Emer, and the ghost of Emer's
mother Tansey.
It seems the ghost, Tansey, has come to help Emer leave this world behind. She
appears to Mary and asks that Mary give her granny a message. Now you do have
to know that many people in Ireland take ghosts for granted. Mary and her mother,
Scarlett arrange to take Tansey to see granny at the hospital.
The visit results in a plan to take granny out on a road trip to visit her old
farmstead. This is a beautiful story of four generations of women, from young
to beyond old and of the love they share with one another. That love makes it
bearable to say good-bye. Ages 10 & up
