...we've got 50 great nursery rhymes in one awesome comic-format basket!
Nursery Rhyme Comics: 50 timeless rhymes from 50 celebrated cartoonists is a wonderful compilation. It showcases the art and style of fifty cartoonists, like Patrick McDonnell of Mutts fame, the legendary Jules Fieffer and the previously blogged about author of The Unsinkable Walker Bean, Aaron Renier, among others. Each contributor put their own spin on their rhyme, from Stephanie Yue giving the mouse in "Hickory Dickory Dock" a job to Jen Wang's sleepless "Little Bo Peep."
I can't even begin to start praising this collection. I think Leonard S. Marcus said it best in his foreward:
"...it is refreshing indeed to come across a book that encourages readers to linger over each and every one of its pages..." and "...we come away (from this collection) not so much knowing what to think about this or that rhyme as realizing there is no end to where our own thoughts might take us, given only the chance."
It's lovely. Wonderful. Perfect! Highly recommended for a sweet trip down memory lane and beyond.
