Hello, comics fans! We're taking a slight detour this session and starting off the holiday season with--gasp!--a picture book.
That's right. But this is no ordinary picture book; it's one that I believe deserves a look from anyone who appreciates illustration. Anyone who likes to tell the story themselves. Anyone who loves stories where those most in need get a miracle.
The story is "A Small Miracle" by Peter Collington, about a starving old gypsy woman who must sell her most prized possession to get some money for food. On the way to the store she's robbed and pursues her robber to the local church, where she finds him looting the poor box. She stops the knave, rights some serious wrongs... but as a result is so exhausted she collapses on her way back home. What happens next?
A miracle.
I can't say enough good things about this story, and I don't want to say too much and give away the charm. The illustrations are finely drawn and beautifully colored. There is a depth and richness to each panel, a magical feeling to them. It is heartwarming and full of love.
