What would you do if you found a mysterious box, say, behind the shoes in your closet? Or under a layer of dust in the basement? Or dropped on your front porch?
Would you open it?
Would you open it knowing that whatever good—or bad—that came out of the box was your responsibility, because you opened it?
This question is as old as Pandora, and is wonderfully depicted in “Explorer: the mystery boxes”, a collection of comics that tell the stories of different people, and what happens when they come into possession of their own particular mystery boxes. Several artists—including some favorites we’ve talked about previously!-- contributed their talents to this collection, and to see the different styles all coming together around this cool, creepy theme is a delight.
I will say no more, except READ IT! And see if you ever look at those strange boxes, piled in the corner of your musty old basement, the same way again.
