OFF WITH HER HEAD! WordWeaver is

mesmerized by the story of THE LACEMAKER AND THE PRINCESS by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley. It is the story of a friendship between a commoner, eleven-year-old lacemaker Isabella and the daughter of Marie Antoinette, the queen of France. Isabella is asked to be companion to the princess and soon is living two lives....one of luxury and plenty of food in the palace and the other of hard work and little to eat at home with her harsh grandmother and her ailing mother. Will she have to choose between family and justice and the life of luxury within the palace. Rumblings of a revolution will soon change everything.......and the queen will eventually lose her head. This is based on some fact and is partly fiction and is a fascinating glimpse into life in the royal French court in the late 1700's. Enjoy!

WordWeaver says....

Meet Riley and see what a mess his teacher's assignment gets him into........ BEING TEDDY ROOSEVELT by Claudia Mills is a really fun read.    Riley checked his pockets…...no note cards. Yikes! He must have left them on the bus! One whole week of hard work and 31 note cards for his report on President Teddy Roosevelt. Down the drain. What could Riley do?.......What would Teddy do?          Ages 8—10

WordWeaver Rides With the Wind........

WordWeaver read THE MIDDLE OF SOMEWHERE by J.B. Cheaney and ended up chasing the wind. Ronnie Sparks' grandfather is a wind prospector. Ronnie and her little brother Gee get to travel with him as he drives through Kansas seeking good wind for wind power sites.

Gee is a seven-year-old whirlwind himself and leads the way to all sorts of dilemas on the trip. He is hyperactive and just sort of causes problems where ever he is. Twelve-year-old Ronnie wishes for nothing but a quiet, organized life as she struggles to keep Gee in check.

Pumpkins! A Great Fall Word.......

WordWeaver suggests you visit this website for a jump start on pumpkin doings in October.
Take a trip to Circleville, OH for a look at the Annual Pumpkin Show.
The Official Circleville Pumpkin Show

Then read ME AND THE PUMPKIN QUEEN by Marlane Kennedy. It's a fun story about eleven-year-old Mildred who is determined to grow a 1,000 lb. pumpkin to enter into the annual Pumpkin Show. Despite adults who've been growing pumpkins for many years, and who think Mildred is too young to do it, she perseveres.

WordWeaver Loves Baseball and.....

Love, and Community and Friendships and Walt Whitman and.....Wow, WordWeaver could go on longer! There's a wonderful book WordWeaver just read that is about all those things and more. It is the third book in the AURORA COUNTY trilogy by Deborah Wiles. The book is THE AURORA COUNTY ALL-STARS.

A secret, House Jackson has a whopper of one. He's spent the last year at the bedside of a dying old man known as "Mean-Man Boyd" by all the other kids.

7/26/07 WordWeaver Finds 2 Trillion Ways to Lace Shoes!!!!

I'm not kidding. You'll read everything you ever wanted to know about shoelaces on this site by Australian Ian Fieggen. Fascinating!

Storytellers Says WordWeaver....

are my favorite kinds of people. I just read Natalie Babbitt's (TUCK EVERLASTING) new book, JACK PLANK TELLS TALES.

It's all about Jack Plank, a pirate who does not enjoy plundering so just what kind of job can he find? After a week or so at the dinner table of a boarding house where he relates tale after wondrous tale to the boarders, can you guess what his new job may be? Fantastic!
