titled Pie and of course picked it up. A whole book about pies? Yum! On top of that, it was a wonderful story with a bit of mystery and friendship and family love woven in. The book is by Sarah Weeks and yes, the title is PIE. It came out a few months ago and has even made some

WordWeaver enjoyed a trip back in time......

back to Boston, Mass. during the very early years of the twentieth century. The book is MAGGIE & OLIVER OR A BONE OF ONE'S OWN by Valerie Hobbs. Ten -year-old Maggie is a maid in a beautiful mansion. She was found as a baby on the Madame's doorstep and is reminded often that she should be grateful to be working there.

WordWeaver shivered........

and read on about a swamp, a ghost, gators and Shelby Jayne. CIRCLE OF SECRETS by Kimberley Griffiths Little is a wonderful mix of place, a mother and daughter's love, a ghost,
mysterious notes in blue bottles and coming of age. Don't miss this wonderful writer. It's the perfect book for middle graders.

WordWeaver has just been "wonderstruck"...

Wordweaver finally got to read the new book by Brian Selznick, WONDERSTRUCK. He is the award winning author of THE INVENTION OF HUGO CABRET. That book will be coming out in theaters on Nov. 23. WordWeaver saw this You Tube video about WONDERSTRUCK and is sharing it with all of you. Enjoy, and get the book as soon as you can. You will definitely be "wonderstruck"!

WordWeaver just read.......

THE SCHOOL FOR THE INSANELY GIFTED by Dan Elish. Wow! What a ride! Imagine a school devoted to creating masterpieces in any field.....computers, art, acting, music, engineering and more. The only requirement is that kids be extremely, insanely gifted in their field.

WordWeaver has your.......

HALLOWEEN reading ready. The second in the BENJAMIN FRANKLINSTEIN series by Matthew McElligott and Larry Tuxbury is hot off the press. WordWeaver blogged about the first in the series, BENJAMIN FRANKLINSTEIN LIVES! and now wants to share the newest one with you, BENJAMIN FRANKLINSTEIN MEETS THE FRIGHT BROTHERS.

WordWeaver remembers.......

the tragedy of September 11, 2001. Many of you are too young to have experienced the destruction of the Twin Towers in New York City on that day. I have added a new dvd to our Juvenile dvd collection which recounts the tragedy through the eyes of teachers, counselors, students and firefighters.
Fourteen-year-old Brook Peters created this excellent documentary. It is titled THE SECOND DAY and refers to the tragedy having occurred on the second day of kindergarten for then four-year-old Brook.
Take a look at the trailer below. I think you'll be touched.

WordWeaver delved into.....

the pages of a brand new book of fantasy. Summer being a good time to read lazily under a tree or on the beach, this is the book to read. It is the first book by author John Stephens. THE EMERALD ATLAS: BOOKS of the BEGINNING is the first in a trilogy.
